Important Printer Buying Tip: ALWAYS check for the ink cartridge prices before you purchase a
printer. Why? Sometimes cheaper printers end up costing more because its
ink cartridges may be way expensive. You should calculate the "cost of
ownership" per month. The math is simple: (number of prints per month)
times (cost of the cartridge) divided by (the yield of the cartridge).
Yield is the number of pages that can be printed with one particular
cartridge.
For example, assume that average home user prints 150 black pages per
month using a black cartridge that yields 200 pages and costs $28. The
monthly "cost of ownership" is (150 pages) x ($28) = $21
200 pages
Also look at the printer ink alternatives; besides the
original manufacturer's cartridges (OEMs), you may have the selection of
remanufactured cartridges, compatible ink cartridges, and ink refill kits.

fast document printing for everyday use, plus
optional six-color photo printing for achieving
professional-quality borderless photo prints. With
print speeds of up to 17 ppm in black-and-white
and 10 ppm in color (both in draft mode), the Z715
is also able to produce 4-by-6-inch photo prints
in approximately 60 seconds. Resolutions up to
2,400 x 1,200 dpi are achieved on most normal
media types, while optimized 4,800 x 1,200 dpi can
be achieved on photo paper with optimal input.
The Z715 features a unique automatic cartridge
alignment system plus automatic paper-type sensing

PCWORLD.com Editors's review: The Lexmark Z715 costs only $80 and
qualifies as a photo printer because of its
optional photo ink cartridge, but we were
disappointed by its print quality. Even after we
swapped in the $25 photo ink cartridge, we were
unimpressed by the photographic prints.
On the plus side, we found the Z715 easy to use.
The paper tray folds down when not in use, while
the output tray, which is somewhat flimsy, can
slide under the printer when empty. Lexmark's
manual covers not only the Z715, but several
similar models as well, but it nevertheless
provides detailed information on how to set up and
use the printer, how to take advantage of the
driver's features, how to work with different
types of media, and so forth. The printer's driver
installs with a couple of clicks; a window
displays the progress of the installation. The
driver is also easy to understand, displaying a
summary of all the settings you've chosen before
you print. The printer automatically detects your
paper type, though you can disable that feature if
you want to select the paper type manually. An
included application called Lexmark Photo Center
has lots of templates for creating photo albums,
as well as basic photo-editing tools.
Upshot: The Z715 is easy to use,
but there are better printers available for the
same price.
