Important Printer Buying Tip: ALWAYS check for the ink cartridge prices before you purchase a
printer. Why? Sometimes cheaper printers end up costing more because its
ink cartridges may be way expensive. You should calculate the "cost of
ownership" per month. The math is simple: (number of prints per month)
times (cost of the cartridge) divided by (the yield of the cartridge).
Yield is the number of pages that can be printed with one particular
cartridge.
For example, assume that average home user prints 150 black pages per
month using a black cartridge that yields 200 pages and costs $28. The
monthly "cost of ownership" is (150 pages) x ($28) = $21
200 pages
Also look at the printer ink alternatives; besides the
original manufacturer's cartridges (OEMs), you may have the selection of
remanufactured cartridges, compatible ink cartridges, and ink refill kits.

2250TN (From the Manufacturer, Hewlett Packard)
Ideal for small workgroups or anyone looking for a high-quality color
printer, the Hewlett-Packard 2250TN offers high-speed ink-jet printing,
plus convenient networking features, at an affordable price. Printing at
up to 15 pages per minute in draft mode (11 ppm normal), the 2250TN
provides speed and efficiency in the print settings you use most often.
Color printing is nearly as fast, with 14 pages per minute in draft
mode. And with its PhotoREt III Enhanced Color Layering, resolution and
color are adjusted automatically for photo-quality results on any paper.
Whether you're working with transparencies, photo, heavyweight, or
standard office paper, the 2250TN will accommodate you.
The 2250TN is equipped for two paper trays and provides a 500-sheet
input capacity. It comes with a power cord, reference guides, print
software CD-ROM, and four print heads and ink cartridges. It is
compatible with both Windows and Macintosh.

PCWORLD.com Editors' review: WHAT'S HOT: HP promotes the 2250TN as an alternative
for workgroups that don't want or can't afford a color laser. That claim
exaggerates the 2250TN's capabilities, but the printer does deliver
better-looking graphics output than do the low-cost color laser printers
it competes against. It prints color with subtle, smooth shading and
transitions, and with perfect detail. Colors at the default settings
look somewhat cool and muted. WHAT'S NOT: The $999 price tag includes an Ethernet
port, but if you're really going to drop that kind of money for a
network connection, you can find network color lasers these days for
only a few hundred more. And the 2250N's printing speeds of 4.9 pages
per minute on text and 1.6 ppm on graphics is fast for an ink jet but
not for a laser printer. WHAT ELSE: HP specifies the capacity for the 2250TN's
ink cartridges at 1750 pages, which is several times the capacity of
cartridges found in other ink jet printers. That should cut down on the
need to frequently replace consumables and on jobs getting stuck in
limbo when the ink runs out. Like a laser printer, the 2250TN has a
control panel with an LCD and buttons for navigating setup menus. It
also supports remote administration through a Web browser interface. BEST USE: The 2250TN could find a place in offices that
occasionally need top-quality color graphics and already have a
monochrome laser printer.
