Important Printer Buying Tip: ALWAYS check for the ink cartridge prices before you purchase a
printer. Why? Sometimes cheaper printers end up costing more because its
ink cartridges may be way expensive. You should calculate the "cost of
ownership" per month. The math is simple: (number of prints per month)
times (cost of the cartridge) divided by (the yield of the cartridge).
Yield is the number of pages that can be printed with one particular
cartridge.
For example, assume that average home user prints 150 black pages per
month using a black cartridge that yields 200 pages and costs $28. The
monthly "cost of ownership" is (150 pages) x ($28) = $21
200 pages
Also look at the printer ink alternatives; besides the
original manufacturer's cartridges (OEMs), you may have the selection of
remanufactured cartridges, compatible ink cartridges, and ink refill kits.

ProductDescription for Epson Stylus Photo
1200 (From the Manufacturer, Epson)
The Epson Stylus Photo 1200 ink-jet printer delivers
professional-looking portfolios, posters, and presentations from your PC
or Macintosh. In less than two minutes, the printer can produce 1,440 x
720 dpi six-color prints with its drop-on-demand Micro Piezo and
halftone technologies. Text can be laid over any image. Quick-drying
inks protect your prints from smudging or bleeding.
The Epson Stylus Photo 1200 features the smallest droplet size in its
class. Six-picoliter droplets produce enhanced detail, smoother
gradations, and continuous tones on a variety of standard paper and
envelope sizes. The printer is also suitable for panoramas, as it is
capable of producing 13-by-44-inch prints. The 128 KB input buffer
easily handles large files.

PC WORLD.com Editors' review:
Epson's latest doesn't merely print photos--it prints big photos.
The Stylus Photo 1200 has a wide carriage that feeds cut-sheet paper as
large as 13 inches wide by 19 inches long. With an optional paper-roll
feeder, you can print images up to 44 inches long. On standard
11-by-17-inch tabloid paper, the Photo 1200 can print right to the edge
of the page.
Epson says the double shades enhance photorealism. Among other Epson
four-color and six-color printers I've tested, the six-color models
don't produce markedly better photos than the best four-color
models--but both are remarkable.
The Stylus Photo 1200 can print at 1440-by-720 dots per inch, and Epson
claims that at 720-by-720 dpi it can print an 8-by-10 photo in two
minutes. PC World has not yet tested the 1200's performance on
real-world printing tasks such as plain text and basic graphics.
Pricing for the paper-roll feeder and a PostScript option have not been
set. A parallel port, a Mac serial port, and a Universal Serial Bus port
are built in, and an optional Ethernet adapter is available (price not
set). The printer's software bundle includes the Vivid Details Photoshop
plug-in, Test Strip, for color correction and proofing; and the LE
version of Adobe Photoshop 5.0.
