Important Printer Buying Tip: ALWAYS check for the ink cartridge prices before you purchase a
printer. Why? Sometimes cheaper printers end up costing more because its
ink cartridges may be way expensive. You should calculate the "cost of
ownership" per month. The math is simple: (number of prints per month)
times (cost of the cartridge) divided by (the yield of the cartridge).
Yield is the number of pages that can be printed with one particular
cartridge.
For example, assume that average home user prints 150 black pages per
month using a black cartridge that yields 200 pages and costs $28. The
monthly "cost of ownership" is (150 pages) x ($28) = $21
200 pages
Also look at the printer ink alternatives; besides the
original manufacturer's cartridges (OEMs), you may have the selection of
remanufactured cartridges, compatible ink cartridges, and ink refill kits.

ProductDescription for Epson Stylus
Color 1160 (From the Manufacturer, Epson)
The Epson Stylus Color 1160 ink-jet printer is a handy tool for
extra-wide presentations, spreadsheets, photos, and bigger CAD/CAM
drawings. It's highly flexible, supporting images with fields of
up to 13 by 44 inches.
The 1160 is long rather than deep, a necessity for printing large
images and a useful design if your peripherals live on a shallow
shelf or cabinet. With impressively sturdy construction, the 1160
is a snap to set up. Plug it in, load the software and two ink
cartridges, then print.
With high 1,440 x 720 dpi resolution and a four-color ink-jet
system, you'll produce crisp, clear images. Four-picoliter ink
droplets compose the fine lines and detailing of your work. Epson
combines Micro Piezo ink-jet technology with AcuPhoto halftones to
bring out natural skin tones with smooth gradations.
Overall we found this machine perfectly suitable for a busy office
environment. For offices combining Windows, Macintosh, and iMac
users, the 1160 features built-in USB and parallel ports for both
systems. Your staff can easily share the link to the 1160 via
built-in printer sharing. Epson backs the 1160 with a one-year
limited warranty.

PC WORLD.com Editors' review:
Either you like your electronics small--as with PDAs and
all-in-one PCs--or you prefer broader vistas, like 21-inch
displays and wide-format printers. With its new Stylus Color
1160,Epson stands firmly in the plus-size printer camp: This color
ink jet handles standard-size pages up to 13 by 19 inches and
rolled banner paper up to 44 inches long.
As with most Epsons, the 1160 can produce gorgeous photographs,
though you'll need to use more costly ink jet paper or glossy
photo stock to get the best quality. The printer is quiet and
petite for a wide-format model: Folded up, it's 2 feet wide by 1
foot deep by 6 inches high; with the paper trays extended, it
gains a foot in depth and height.
You can find the 1520 for about $100 less than the 1160, but
you're wiser to choose the 1160. Although it costs more, it
contains newer technology and delivers better output quality.
Also, Hewlett-Packard has just come out with the DeskJet 1220C,
which we couldn't get in time to test. Typical for HP, it's
pricey--$499--but the output I saw in previews was beautiful. Even
so, the Epson 1160's quality is high and at these prices, every
$50 counts.
