Important Printer Buying Tip: ALWAYS check for the ink cartridge prices before you purchase a
printer. Why? Sometimes cheaper printers end up costing more because its
ink cartridges may be way expensive. You should calculate the "cost of
ownership" per month. The math is simple: (number of prints per month)
times (cost of the cartridge) divided by (the yield of the cartridge).
Yield is the number of pages that can be printed with one particular
cartridge.
For example, assume that average home user prints 150 black pages per
month using a black cartridge that yields 200 pages and costs $28. The
monthly "cost of ownership" is (150 pages) x ($28) = $21
200 pages
Also look at the printer ink alternatives; besides the
original manufacturer's cartridges (OEMs), you may have the selection of
remanufactured cartridges, compatible ink cartridges, and ink refill kits.

ProductDescription for Canon i250
(From the Manufacturer, Canon)
The Canon i250 Color Bubble Jet Printer delivers crisp text,
no-hassle printing and high-quality photos from the Web--all at an
exceptional value. You've heard "no hassle" in regard to web
printing, but Canon's specially developed Easy Webprint software
makes it a reality. Functioning as a toolbar in Microsoft IE, it
automatically scales and smoothes pages to fit your paper properly,
and allows you to format multiple pages as a single, multi-column
page.
When it comes to printing photos, you may decide that professional
processing is a thing of the past-a maximum resolution of 4,800 x
1,200 dpi and MicroFine Droplet Technology combine for virtually
grain-free images ready for framing or sending to friends in less
than two minutes. Color images print at up to 9 pages per minute.
The i250 printer's compact design fits nicely into limited work
spaces; with a weight of just 3.75 lbs, you'll hardly know it's
there. A full software package is included to make photo printing
easy manageable, and the two ink cartridges are included in the box.
USB connectivity means just one cord is necessary, but you'll need
to supply it yourself.

PC WORLD.com Editors' review:
Canon i250 has the MicroFine Droplet print engines that are capable
of 4,800- by 1,200-dpi color output. Canon i250 uses one black and
one tricolor ink cartridge—and a separate printhead. It has only a
USB interface, and neither comes with a cable. Canon i250 has
well-illustrated setup guide. It comes with Easy PhotoPrint software
for printing a single photo or a batch, and Easy-WebPrint, which
formats Web pages for printing.
The print driver is extensive, with all the familiar extras,
including poster, n-up, manual duplex, watermark, and background
printing. A wizard helps you choose which features to use in order
to get the results you want.
Not all the shared features are in the plus column, however. Canon
i250 case feel flimsy, and paper feeds from a stack in the back,
with a tendency to skew at times. There's no way to feed a single
envelope without removing the paper stack and adjusting the feed
guides.
The installation process includes a head alignment procedure, but
instead of having the printer automatically adjust on its own, you
must make judgments based on the printout.
Alignment is excellent; color gradients are smooth with no obvious
banding; and colors are bright and well saturated. Photo prints are
surprisingly good for this printer in this price range. The level of
detail in it dark shadows and highlights is impressive. The printer
driver also has an automatic color adjustment feature (it's off by
default), which does an excellent job of rebalancing an image that
might be over- or underexposed.
