Important Printer Buying Tip: ALWAYS check for the ink cartridge prices before you purchase a
printer. Why? Sometimes cheaper printers end up costing more because its
ink cartridges may be way expensive. You should calculate the "cost of
ownership" per month. The math is simple: (number of prints per month)
times (cost of the cartridge) divided by (the yield of the cartridge).
Yield is the number of pages that can be printed with one particular
cartridge.
For example, assume that average home user prints 150 black pages per
month using a black cartridge that yields 200 pages and costs $28. The
monthly "cost of ownership" is (150 pages) x ($28) = $21
200 pages
Also look at the printer ink alternatives; besides the
original manufacturer's cartridges (OEMs), you may have the selection of
remanufactured cartridges, compatible ink cartridges, and ink refill kits.

Canon PIXMA MP130 Street Price: $99.99
PC MAGAZINE.com Editors' review:
If you don't expect much from an AIO at the $100 price point, the Canon
Pixma MP130 Photo All-in-One ($99.99 direct) will be a pleasant
surprise. At this price, you won't get an automatic document feeder
(ADF), standalone fax features, or blazingly fast speed. But the MP130
is convincingly faster than other AIOs close to it in price, and it
offers high-quality output. It also scans, copies, and prints directly
from camera memory cards, and it can scan to a fax program to use your
computer's modem if you have one.
Setup follows the usual steps for an AIO with a USB connection and two
ink cartridges, with one exception. Unlike most ink jet printers and
AIOs, the MP130 requires manual alignment: You print out an alignment
page and then pick the most solid-looking blocks to set the alignment.
And you have to go through this minor chore every time you change a
cartridge.
Performance was a bit sluggish compared with that of ink jet printers
and AIOs in general. But it was much faster than anything else in the
MP130's price range. On our business applications suite, it turned in a
total of 27 minutes 51 seconds, compared with over 35 minutes each for
the Lexmark X5250 All-In-One, the HP PSC 1315 All-in-One, and the Dell
Photo All-in-One Printer 922. On our photo suite, it averaged 2:34 for
each 4-by-6 and 5:58 for each 8-by-10—a bit slower than the Dell 922 but
significantly faster than the HP and Lexmark printers.
