Important Printer Buying Tip: ALWAYS check for the ink cartridge prices before you purchase a
printer. Why? Sometimes cheaper printers end up costing more because its
ink cartridges may be way expensive. You should calculate the "cost of
ownership" per month. The math is simple: (number of prints per month)
times (cost of the cartridge) divided by (the yield of the cartridge).
Yield is the number of pages that can be printed with one particular
cartridge.
For example, assume that average home user prints 150 black pages per
month using a black cartridge that yields 200 pages and costs $28. The
monthly "cost of ownership" is (150 pages) x ($28) = $21
200 pages
Also look at the printer ink alternatives; besides the
original manufacturer's cartridges (OEMs), you may have the selection of
remanufactured cartridges, compatible ink cartridges, and ink refill kits.

The BJC-8500 is Canon's color Bubble Jet printer designed with the
graphics industry in mind. Canon combined unique printing technologies
with advanced features to offer a printer capable of outstanding quality
whilst also well equipped for business use. The BJC-8500 can achieve a
true resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi by using Canon's brand new MicroFine
Droplet Technology. This reduces the size of each drop, producing
superior image quality, with the result being print outs of even better
quality than silver halide photographs. P-POP Technology ensures that
this level of print quality can be achieved across a wide range of
papers and a wide range of applications.

The BJC-8500 is a workhorse for graphic artists and designers who need
large-format support. The BJC-8500 doesn't offer class-leading speeds.
But what's missing in terms of speed the BJC-8500 makes up for in
quality.
The 8500 comes with a 250-sheet paper tray, and you can add a second
250-sheet tray. A manual feed slot in the back gives you a straight
paper path for heavy stock and labels. The BJC-8500 can handle paper up
to 13 by 19 inches, allowing full bleeds on all sides of a ledger-size
sheet.
With an overall speed of 0.5 ppm, the BJC-8500 is even slower than the
BJC-8200, which has an overall speed of 1.0 ppm, but it has excellent
quality. In four-color mode, there's a fifth tank for black and a sixth
tank containing an ink optimizer that waterproofs plain paper to reduce
wicking in paper fibers.
The BJC-8500 is priced so that only professional users will be
interested, but if you need to print on large media, you don't have many
other choices in this price range.
