Important Printer Buying Tip: ALWAYS check for the ink cartridge prices before you purchase a
printer. Why? Sometimes cheaper printers end up costing more because its
ink cartridges may be way expensive. You should calculate the "cost of
ownership" per month. The math is simple: (number of prints per month)
times (cost of the cartridge) divided by (the yield of the cartridge).
Yield is the number of pages that can be printed with one particular
cartridge.
For example, assume that average home user prints 150 black pages per
month using a black cartridge that yields 200 pages and costs $28. The
monthly "cost of ownership" is (150 pages) x ($28) = $21
200 pages
Also look at the printer ink alternatives; besides the
original manufacturer's cartridges (OEMs), you may have the selection of
remanufactured cartridges, compatible ink cartridges, and ink refill kits.

PC WORLD.com Editors' review:
For sheer variety of paper options at a wallet-friendly price, the Canon
BJC-5000 tops our list for home users. For $249 you get features galore,
including the ability to print on tabloid-size (11-by-17-inch) paper.
This wide format is handy for posters and other odd jobs, but
hand-feeding pages one at a time through a slot at the back of the
printer is a pain.
Unique to the Canon BJC-5000 is the ability to run dual black cartridges
for nonstop text printing, or dual color cartridges for heavy-duty color
jobs. Performance is about average for a home printer. We have just two
minor complaints: The BJC-5000 makes a real racket while it's printing,
and the manual's troubleshooting section is ridiculously brief.
