Important Printer Buying Tip: ALWAYS check for the ink cartridge prices before you purchase a
printer. Why? Sometimes cheaper printers end up costing more because its
ink cartridges may be way expensive. You should calculate the "cost of
ownership" per month. The math is simple: (number of prints per month)
times (cost of the cartridge) divided by (the yield of the cartridge).
Yield is the number of pages that can be printed with one particular
cartridge.
For example, assume that average home user prints 150 black pages per
month using a black cartridge that yields 200 pages and costs $28. The
monthly "cost of ownership" is (150 pages) x ($28) = $21
200 pages
Also look at the printer ink alternatives; besides the
original manufacturer's cartridges (OEMs), you may have the selection of
remanufactured cartridges, compatible ink cartridges, and ink refill kits.

ProductDescription for BJC 4300 (From
the Manufacturer, Canon) Black Page When Printing Faxes
If when you print a fax, it comes out as a solid black page, go into the
printer's properties and set the printer to Mono.
Printing Squashed or Running off Right Hard Side of Page If your printing is either squashed down the left hand
side of the page, or that it runs off the right hand edge of the page
the cause is down to the printer not detecting the right colour
cartridge in the printer.
What you need to do is go into the Properties for the printer, then into
the Graphics tab, and in the Colour Model section, change the setting
from Colour to Photo Colour (if it is already set to Photo Colour,
change it to Colour).
Scanner Print Head
If you get a problem whereby you get a General Protection Fault when the
Screensaver starts, after you've installed the Scanner Software, the
problem is with the software driver for the scanner head. Download the
latest driver from Canon's Website. The version that definitely causes
the problem is version 1.10.
Error Message : "Internal Error: Colour Adjustment Method
will not be available". Whenever you try to print you get the above message. If
you press OK, it prints, but if you press Cancel it says you don't have
enough memory to use the printer's driver. The solution is to update the
printer's drivers to version 3.93 or higher. The drivers should be
available from Canon's Website. Remember to uninstall the previous
driver before updating.
Compressed Printing when using Photo Cartridge
When using an BC-22 ink cartridge, printing is compressed by 50%
horizontally. Settings used are Colour Model = Photo and Print Quality =
High.
The BC-22 ink cartridge will only print properly when Print Quality is
set to Standard. The BC-22 has since been discontinued and replaced with
the BC-22e, which will print properly when Print Quality is set to High.

PC WORLD.com Editors' review: VITAL STATS: 5-ppm monochrome, 2-ppm color ink jet;
720-by-360-dpi maximum resolution; 100 sheets input, 100 output. This
new midrange model from Canon went straight to the top of our chart this
month to become our new number-one color Best Buy. Cheaper (by $80) and
faster at printing text (by about 35 percent) than its predecessor the
BJC-4200, which was number three on our August chart, the BJC-4300 gives
you the biggest bang for your buck of any color printer here. It--and
not the new BJC-250--really should be Canon's entry-level system. At
$199, the Canon BJC-4300 costs a mere $20 more than the BJC-250 but is
built around a design that allows it to print true black and true
four-color graphics.
The BJC-4300 does a charming job on color documents, printing edges
clearly and revealing details that three-color printers would smother.
We are also impressed by the BJC-4300's subtle and lifelike grayscales.
Text quality? It's typical ink jet fare-not spectacular but certainly
acceptable. Letters show slight jaggies, and tight corners start to fill
in, but they are free of shadowing and spatter. Lines seem to be the
printer's weak spot, with too much variation in weight.Like most other
recent Canon printers, the BJC-4300's driver provides predefined
settings for photos, graphics, and other document types, and a "set-up
analyzer" that confirms your choices of paper type, image type, print
quality, and so on. You can also customize and save driver
configurations for special types of documents, such as sepia-toned
photographs. The BJC-4300 also supports the $99 IS-22 Color Image
Scanner cartridge that pops into the printhead's place, which turns your
printer into a scanner.
