DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation) was among the major players in the minicomputer industry from the 1960s up to the 1990s. They were using the trademark Digital hence, the DEC/Digital combined logo. The company sold computer systems, peripherals and software among which the most successful in terms of sales volume were the PDP and VAX product lines. The company was based in Massachusetts up until it was acquired by Compaq in 1998, only to be merged yet again with Hewlett-Packard in 2002. Some parts of DEC were also sold to Intel. The 1998 merger with Compaq was considered to be the largest in the industry at the time. HP continued but rebranded many of the original Digital product lines.
