Important Printer Buying Tip: ALWAYS check for the ink cartridge prices before you purchase a printer. Why? Sometimes cheaper printers end up costing more because its ink cartridges may be way expensive. You should calculate the "cost of ownership" per month. The math is simple: (number of prints per month) times (cost of the cartridge) divided by (the yield of the cartridge). Yield is the number of pages that can be printed with one particular cartridge. For example, assume that average home user prints 150 black pages per month using a black cartridge that yields 200 pages and costs $28. The monthly "cost of ownership" is (150 pages) x ($28) = $21 200 pages Also look at the printer ink alternatives; besides the original manufacturer's cartridges (OEMs), you may have the selection of remanufactured cartridges, compatible ink cartridges, and ink refill kits. |

Detailed Specs (Canon i320, 7816A001):
Product Description for Canon i320 (From the Manufacturer, Canon)
Now you can achieve exceptional, photo-quality printing in the comfort of your home or office. The i320 speeds through projects at up to 10 ppm in black and 6 ppm in color (using high-speed Draft mode), offering an unbeatable combination of quality, speed, and value. Enjoy true-to-life photos with up to 2,400 x 1,200 dpi color resolution--38 percent greater than 2,880 x 720 dpi printers have. The versatile i320 is also ideal for printing fast, colorful Web pages and crisp letters.
The printer supports ExifPrint 2.2 (Exchangeable Image Format File), a worldwide standard for high-quality digital photos, with its exclusive Easy-PhotoPrint software. When a digital camera with ExifPrint technology captures a photo, it saves important camera settings and shooting conditions in the resulting JPEG image file. Easy-PhotoPrint analyzes the recorded data, then automatically adjusts printer driver levels and image-correction settings for optimal processing.
With its built-in paper feeder, the i320 handles 100 sheets of 24-pound paper, 80 sheets of high-resolution paper, 20 sheets of glossy 4-x-6-inch photo cards, 10 sheets of 8.5-x-11-inch glossy photo paper, or 30 transparency sheets. When the printer is used with Canon Photo Paper Pro, your favorite photos should retain their brilliance for about 25 years.

PCWORLD.com Editors' review:
WHAT'S HOT: Canon's $79 i320 is the least expensive ink jet we tested for our January 2003 roundup, yet it turns out brightly colored, subtly textured glossy photos and clean--if slightly grayish--text on ordinary paper. It prints narrow lines reasonably well--a challenging feat for most ink jets. Its performance doesn't set any records, but at 4.7 pages per minute on text--about 1 ppm slower than the average for the general-purpose printers we reviewed--you won't grow too impatient waiting for your letters and memos.
Canon provides an excellent set-up poster, a useful printed user's manual, and an extensive HTML manual on CD-ROM that covers details such as hand duplexing and improving print quality.
WHAT'S NOT: The i320's construction feels flimsy--the shell and paper trays seem likely to crack with little provocation. The paper feed has no bypass slot for an envelope or a single sheet of letterhead. And the i320 doesn't do well on gray-scale photos; we saw rough textures and moire patterns on our test samples. If printing black-and-white images is on your agenda, another printer would be a better choice.
WHAT ELSE: The i320 doesn't take up much desk space: With its paper trays folded, it's only 15 inches wide, 7 inches deep, and 6.5 inches high. At just 4 pounds, it's also easy to move or carry.
UPSHOT: If preserving desk space, saving some cash, and having a printer that can be seen and not heard matters to you, the i320 will fill the bill.
